SONICflex™ rootplaner

  • 4 diamond-coated tips, differing in curvature
  • For ideal accessibility of root surfaces and furcations according to Prof. Kocher
  • Cleaning of hard surfaces and of poorly accessible furcation areas to remove hard deposits in open curettage
  • Thorough removal of hard coatings
  • Excellent rinsing of debris, gentle action, thanks to excellent visibility and cooling
  • Fast work with minimum fatigue

The KaVo SONICflex rootplaner tips open up completely new possibilities in mechanical conditioning of root surfaces, especially in inaccessible furcation areas.

The problem

Periodontal treatments with graft operations are complicated and physically stressful. The furcation proves to be a weak point: it has only limited access and is difficult to clean.

The solution

The KaVo SONICflex rootplaner tips for easy processing of even remote or narrow furcation regions. Eases the physically stressful periodontal treatment with graft operation for the dentist and patient: Differently angled tips with working ends of different sizes: singly angled bud for cleaning smooth surfaces and the contra-angle bud for furcation cleaning.

Treatment of molars with furcation infection

The time outlay for processing molars with furcation infection, during flap surgery with manual instruments (H) and with the diamond-coated air scaler attachments (DS).

The three diamond-coated SONICflex rootplaner tips (no.s. 24, 25 and 26) with the smaller buttons are designed for treating the furcation.

This graphic shows the horizontal, clinical attachment gain on molars with furcation infection that were processed during flap surgery, either with manual instruments (H), or with diamond-coated SONICflex rootplaner tips (DS).

It can be clearly seen that half a year after operation on the teeth processed with DS, a significantly greater attachment gain was produced that could not be maintained over two years, as the corresponding instruments were not available for the recall.

Features

Benefits of using SONICflex rootplaner

  • Very finely diamond-coated (15 μm) SONICflex rootplaner tips for mechanical root surface treatment
  • Bulbous, thickened working ends allow for extensive work on the root surface
  • Different shank angulations of the SONICflex rootplaner tips enable easy and efficient working, even on narrow furcation areas that are difficult to access
  • SONICflex rootplaner tip with a 4.0 mm-long, 1.5 mm-thick bud for working on smooth surfaces
  • An attachment similar to the universal tip and two contra-angled tips, each with a 2.0 mm-long and 1.0 mm-thick diamond-coated bud, are available for working on furcation areas
  • Option of cooling with sterile coolant using an adapter to the SONICflex
  • Unlike dental instruments, a specific working angle to the root surface is not necessary, thus further simplifying work for the practitioner on areas that are difficult to access
  • No physical effort on the part of the practitioner
  • Cleaning of root surfaces can be carried out more quickly with SONICflex rootplaner tips

Inserting SONICflex tips

The working end to be used is screwed onto the SONICflex handpiece with the supplied torque wrench until you feel it snap into place. The working tip is now secured in the handpiece.

If the SONICflex handpiece is to remain on the treatment unit with the tip attached, we recommend leaving the supplied screw-in aid attached so that there is no risk of injury from the working tip.
