Back pain amongst dentist

Top tips for reducing back and neck pain amongst dentists from Dr James Tang

Back and neck pain amongst dentists is a common problem.  So having the correct operator positioning and posture is fundamental.  In fact, when sitting for long periods of time, muscles adapt to those positions leading to muscle imbalances and tissue damage.

Choosing an ergonomically designed dental chair, adopting a logical surgery layout, using appropriate dentist stools and lighting all help to reduce awkward movements and stretching.  Regular movement and exercises are also important to reduce the onset of back pain.

KaVo has teamed up with General Dental Practitioner James Tang (CES, MBA, BDS, LDS RCS) to provide tips for reducing the prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders, particularly neck and back pain, for dentists.
