KaVo goes green!

KaVo is committed to excellence in environmental management. Our ambitious, multi-stage environment plan is integrated into our corporate policy and our environmental management system in accordance with DIN EN ISO 14001:2015, and is set to make us more sustainable going forward.

“As an industrial company, we are also involved in climate change and therefore consider it our responsibility to contribute to preserving and protecting our natural environment. Supported by the entire KaVo team, we are entirely committed to
pursuing this goal,” says Klaus Reisenauer, Environmental Officer and Senior Director of Regulatory and Quality at KaVo.

“That’s why we opted to have our operations certified according to ISO standard 14001:2015. We were successful, which means that we’ve made our first major step towards achieving the aims of KaVo’s environmental policy. However, we need to make sure that environmental action is a constant consideration in everything we do at the company if we are to achieve our goals.”

Careful and respectful use of resources in the company is the primary focus, and has an influence on every decision, big and small – because at KaVo, environmental protection is a matter for every department.

Natural resources such as energy, water or materials are used sparingly, and we are conducting research into possible substitutes for environmentally hazardous substances. In addition, KaVo already uses exclusively green electricity throughout production at its two main sites in Biberach and Warthausen.

Regular audits monitor the status of our goals, which are primarily centered around improving energy efficiency and avoiding waste. “We are on a very positive path when it comes to our increasingly efficient use of resources,” says Klaus Reisenauer.

“In 2022, for instance, we were able to reduce our gas consumption by 20%, and water consumption by 16% compared to the previous year, despite a slight increase in the number of employees. But we know that our goals are ambitious. We are aware of our responsibility and take our goals seriously.”

More precisely, KaVo is set to invest in renewable energies and photovoltaic technology in order to produce 15% of its electricity in-house. It will also reduce the consumption of energy for heating by a further 5% on the previous year. A special KaVo CO2 database will be set up so that the company’s carbon footprint can be critically assessed and CO2 emissions reduced to a minimum.

Electromobility is set to become more prominent, too – the goal is for no less than a 100% conversion to electric cars within the KaVo vehicle fleet in the next three years. The first vehicles are already in use.
