Manual procedure
In the last part of our reprocessing series we want to inform you about the manual reprocessing procedure of your KaVo instruments.
1. External cleaning
Brush the medical device under running tap water.
Accessories required:
- Tap water 30° C ± 5°C
- Medium-hard toothbrush
2. Internal cleaning
Validated manual interior cleaning (Residual protein removal) with KaVo CLEANspray 2110 P:
- Cover the medical device with the KaVo Cleanpac bag
- Position the medical device on the corresponding servicing adapter
- Hold the can vertically
- Press the spray button 3 times for 2 seconds each time
- Allow the spray to take effect for 1 minute
If no manual external and internal disinfection follows immediately after cleaning, the medical device must be dried with the KaVo DRYspray , see 5. Drying.
3. External disinfection
KaVo recommends the following disinfectants based on the compatibility of the materials:
- CaviWipes / CaviCide from Metrex
- Mikrozid AF from Schülke & Mayr (liquid or wipes)
- FD 322 from Dürr
- Follow the instructions for use of the disinfectant
- Spray the disinfectant onto a cloth and wipe down the medical device
- Allow the disinfectant to act according to the instructions of the disinfectant manufacturer
Hazard due to incomplete disinfection
The disinfection procedures used must be verified to have bactericidal, fungicidal and virucidal effects. If the disinfectants used do not offer the prescribed characteristics, the process must be concluded with disinfection of devices in an unpacked condition in the steriliser.
4. Internal disinfection
KaVo recommends the following disinfectant based on the compatibility of the materials:
- WL-cid / ALPRO
- Cover the medical device with the KaVo Cleanpac bag
- Position the medical device on the corresponding servicing adapter
- Hold the can vertically
- Press the spray button for 3 seconds
- Allow the spray to take effect for 2 minutes
- Follow the instructions for use of the disinfectant
Hazard due to incomplete disinfection

5. Drying
Drying the air, water and gear unit ducts with the KaVo DRYspray.
- Cover the medical device with the KaVo Cleanpac bag
- Position the medical device on the corresponding servicing adapter
- Hold the can vertically
- Press the spray once for 3-5 seconds
- Oil handpiece immediately after the drying
6. Lubrication
KaVo Spray 2112 A: Care spray for optimum care.
- Reprocess the medical product after every application, i.e. after every cleaning, disinfection and prior to every sterilisation
- Cover the medical device with the Cleanpac bag
- Position the medical device on the corresponding servicing adapter
- Press the spray button for 1-2 seconds
Separate head care.
For optimum care, remove the heads from the reducing shank and treat for 1-2 seconds with a corresponding servicing adapter
Manual chuck servicing
KaVo recommends cleaning and servicing the chucking system once every week.
- Position the tip of the KaVo spray nipple in the opening of the chuck
- Press the spray button for 1-2 seconds
7. Documentation
The process is released in written from on the following basis:
- The correctness of the process sequence must be tested
Putting the products back into clinical use
Directly prior to providing treatment, attach instruments and turbines onto the motor or MULTIflex coupling. Activate handpiece and let it run for a few seconds. Wipe off any escaping lubrication oil.
